EMDR - healing all traumas, large and small
Trauma is a heavy word that most people associate with severe distress. However, as we come to understand more about how the body and the brain experience anything from hurt feelings to near-death experiences, we can begin to see that even a seemingly small life events can have a huge impact on how a person experiences themselves. These small and large incidents begin to shape what we believe about ourselves and how we interpret our world.
Eye Movement Desensitizion and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy has been extensively researched as an effective trauma treatment protocol for decades. It is still unclear how EMDR (or any other psychotherapeutic interventions, for that matter) works neurologically, but it is believed to replicate REM sleep to facilitate the resolution of traumatic events. Attachment Focused EMDR also attends to the large and small relational traumas typically experienced through childhood, when many of our experiences shape who we are, what we think and how we behave. EMDR has been shown to support an individual's development by supporting integrative processes including memory, narrative and emotional state.
Let's talk about whether EMDR is a good fit for your therapeutic goals.
